An idea for the US auto industry

As Congress mulls loan and bailout schemes for the US auto industry, discussing various strings attached that might make the Big Three relevant and profitable again, here's an idea that would help right now: start importing cars that these companies already make for the European market back into the States. Congress might need to grant some quick waivers for safety and emissions, but otherwise, there's no reason why they couldn't pack ships full of the Ford Ka (top) and GM's Opel Corsa and send loads of these fun, compact, efficient cars to a domestic market that needs them. And then re-tool some truck and SUV factories so we can build them here.
