Autumn / Winter 2011 look book, and not only do we want most of the clothes depicted therein, we'd kind of like to have a heavy hardbound copy of it for the coffee table. As always, Canali brings all of the lush materials and flattering silhouettes that represent our favourite things about classic menswear, while ever so gently updating the details to remain current without trendiness—they'll give us the trim trouser legs, but they'll wisely pass on the skinny lapel fad. Lots of great inspiration in these pages, and a few recurring themes jump out at us: Turtlenecks that aren't fooling around. We like turtlenecks that mean business, and these border on neck-brace heft. As far as we're concerned, as long as you can still see over the top of your turtleneck, it's not too big. Lots of great plaid. Men should really embrace rich plaids in our wardrobes. There are few easier ways to put together an error-free, sophisticated fit than to mix a good plaid trouser or coat with some sort of neutral. And Tailored insulation. Some truly progressive outerwear here, like the silver quilted coat above right, brings serious warmth and high-tech materials without reducing the wearer to the standard Shapeless Parka Blob. Bring on the cool weather.
