Cool sweaters at Brooks Brothers | Buy

It's not that Brooks Brothers hasn't always made very nice sweaters—they're first-rate—but rather that they tended to fall into the amortized investment category. Nobody gets excited about paying $400 for a solid-colour cashmere pullover. So the fall/winter 2012 selections are a pleasant surprise, being considerably more interesting and a lot more affordable, including: (left) a Fair Isle merino v-neck in rich browns [$148]. Fair Isles tend to be on the loud side, but the muted fall colours here make this one highly wearable. (middle) Lightweight supima cotton [$68] with just enough detail to be interesting. Wearable on its own in summer or as an interesting layer of colour under a suit. (right) A Shetland argyle cardigan [$168] in a great retro pattern.
