Mailbag: spring denim hues | Buy

Allan S. writes: "You guys don't like denim in pale blue, pastel, or white. Kind of narrows down our options, doesn't it? I can't wear dark blue and black all summer." Answer: Don't forget that medium blue is crap as well. Seriously, though, although there are so many great non-denim choices in warm weather (chinos, linens...) you still have some options for jeans. Try overdyed khaki, olive, any of the brown washes, or (our favourite) some kind of light or medium grey. Just pick a solid tone that looks like it was meant to be that shade, instead of a textured one that comes off like an overly washed black. Shown: Levi's Capital E in Dolphin Rinse Wash, $158 at Nordstrom. (Christ, that's a lot for f**king Levis. Nice colour, though...)
