Mailbag: What NOT to buy at Ikea

An anonymous reader asks: "Thanks for your Ikea pointers, but they have so much stuff over there, can you tell me what NOT to buy at Ikea?" Answer: When shopping the Ikea catalog, here are a few words you want to avoid, and what they mean. Foil: "We were too cheap even for veneer." [Wood] effect: "Why use wood when a picture of wood will do?" Honeycomb: "Particleboard was deemed too luxurious." Generally speaking, if you stick with solid wood or decent veneer furniture, you'll be OK. Their appliances are also pretty good.
