Smart Car: maximum FAIL per gallon | Fail

The Smart Car, like many vehicles targeted at hippies, has that kind of look-at-me styling that is intended to amaze passerby with the driver's eco-hipness. But it amazes us for all the wrong reasons: How could a vehicle so light have such terrible acceleration? How could a car with such a tiny engine not get better than 33/41 mpg? These things are dangerous, not fun to drive, and have pitiful cargo capacity. They've got a lot of nerve charging $15,000 for a reasonably equipped one. One could get a truly solid Toyota Yaris for less than that, and would enjoy the car so much more.
