Canali Autumn/Winter 2013
The longer this miserable summer drags on, the more everyone around here pines for cooler autumn days of scarves and turtlenecks. Canali's A/W 2013 Lookbook is, as always, equal parts product desiderata and practical inspiration for real-world styling. A few noteworthy observations:
Red on red on red. This is the main theme, sometimes combining as many as four pieces in varying degrees of saturation. It has a high degree of difficulty, but the idea can be dialed back and executed safely—maybe match a deep red sweater and oxblood shoes, or a brighter pattern with a quieter solid, on top of a more neutral palette.
Refined takes on utilitarian classics. In 2011 it was a high-tech quilted coat. This time it's a four-pocket safari jacket rendered in a richly textured tweed.
Subtle warmth. A tailored peacoat works in a brighter cobalt instead of the more predictable navy. A sedate grey suit whose broad peak lapels and single button suggest formality is made a little more casual when paired with simple chukkas.
