Uniqlo seems to be in "Fall 1" as retailers call it, and while promotional pricing is surely on the way a handful of very useful transitional basics are so cheap that they're worth buying to wear right now. In multiples.
- Merino sweaters [$40] — Solid basics in a large number of colours, great for layering. They're thin, strong, and hold their shape. Crewneck, v-neck, cardigans and turtlenecks are all the same price, but you might want to hold off on the turtles until they arrive in cashmere.
- Vintage belt [$20] — Most of us wear the heck out of suede, flannel and other coarse materials this time of year. A basic, less dressy belt like this is a nice complement to unrefined textures.
- Patterned socks [$4] — Unrefinery has long endorsed Uniqlo's socks, with the only complaint being a shortage of wearable patterns. They've addressed that this time around with plaids, a fair isle-esque jacquard and an interesting messy multi-stripe.
